Documentarian-style wedding photography

You've got your date, you've got your venue - but who's taking your photos?? Even if you aren't that organised, and all you know you have is the person you know you're going to marry, I am able to help you bring your vision to life! I have worn many hats before in my life - Fine Arts Photographer, a 15 year career as a chef alongside an 18 year career in hospitality and events/festivals, and having even planned my own wedding - I know how stressful the whole process can be for all involved!

Through my well-maintained vintage Minolta camera and 35mm film, I will document the beauty, ephemera, and lasting love from your small wedding or elopement. My specialties are documentarian-style and LGBTQ+ couples, however I am flexible, and when we met up for a chat, I will get to know you both and ask the right questions to ensure that we capture magic together!

What exactly is documentarian-style photography?

"Documentarian" is a term that gets thrown around a lot in the wedding photography sphere as of late. At its most basic, it means I take a back seat and capture your wedding as it unfolds. You don't have to worry about what your hands are doing, or if your smile looks good on camera! I assure you that I will take care of that using my own artistic eye.

So you don't do posed photos?

Ah, but I do! During our consult, I will talk to you both about any "Must-Have" shots you simply NEED to have. My camera might seem hard to ignore at first, but I have an amazing ability to disarm people and help them to forget there is even a camera pointed at them.

Why film? What's so special about it?

Well, I am something of a romantic, and despite film being a purely chemical affair, I think there is great romance to be found in it. Light travels through the lens and is captured by special grains of silver salt. When you develop the film in certain chemicals, these silver salts convert into pure metallic silver, leaving behind an archival etching of a single moment for you to enjoy for a lifetime!

So you don't shoot digital?

My entire workflow for my artistic practice is based solely on analogue processes. However, you will absolutely receive digital scans of all of your photos to share online, send to family and friends, and use for phone wallpapers for years to come!

Do you shoot Colour? or just Black & White?

In my personal practice, I have begun to focus mostly on Black & White. However, for you I offer Colour, Black & White, or a mix of both. Currently, I am only set up to develop and print black & white, meaning I have to outsource the development of colour film to the experts at Silver Halide Studios in Mount Lawley.

I am currently in the process of collecting the required equipment to begin developing and printing colour film soon, so watch this space!
